The game of poker isn't just limited to one type. There are a lot of variations to choose from. However, before you even try to play the many variations of the poker card game, it is best to play the original one. The 5-card draw.
A 5-card draw poker game game begins with all players placing an opening bet in the pot called the 'ante.' After everyone has put in their bets, the dealer then deals five cards face down to all players.
Since a player can only see the cards for him, he has no idea what the other players poker cards are. The game is exciting since no one knows what the other players have. The only way for a player to know what the poker cards of his opponents are is too look at body language. How their opponents move or react.
After being dealt their poker cards, the players now look at their cards without letting other players see.
The player that is located on the left of the dealer can choose to bet, check, which is another word for pass, or fold. If the first player chooses to put in a bet, then the second player has no option to check. Rather, the second player can only choose to call, raise or fold.
After the first round of betting, it is now time for the draw.
During the draw, a player can choose to remove any number of poker cards he has in his hand. Depending on the rules, a player can choose to discard from 1 to 5 cards. A player can also choose not to replace any card. The number of poker cards you choose to discard will be replaced by an equivalent number of new poker cards by the dealer.
The order is similar to that of the first round of betting. The player to left of the dealer is the first to 'draw.'
During the 'draw' phase, the game gets pretty interesting. A player should know how many cards to replace. Remember that in poker, it is always better not to give your opponents too much information.
Let's say you choose to replace four cards. Your opponents could think that you have either a King or Ace. It wise therefore to choose and discard at most 3 cards.
During this part of the game, it is also better to show strength even if you actually don't have any good cards. In this case, you could bluff. When a player tells the dealer that he chooses not to draw cards, then the other players will assume that he either has good poker cards or is just bluffing.
After everyone has drawn their cards, the second round of betting begins. The player who started the betting during the first round also starts the second round betting.
After the second round of betting is over, if there are at least two players, the remaining players show their hands to see who wins the game.
